ITA TOOLS STAL Mielec took a massive step towards the playoffs of the 2024-2025 Women’s Tauron Liga this weekend, by triumphing in a key match and returning to the qualification zone for the first time since the third leg of the first round of the regular season.

Mielec earned two points with their dramatic 3-2 (15-25, 25-21, 25-20, 13-25, 15-13) victory over Radomka on Saturday and moved up from ninth to seventh place in the standings, with their new total of 18 points (six wins five losses). Mielec can continue to climb this week as they face BKS BOSTIK ZGO Bielsko-Biała on Wednesday in a postponed match and go to as high as sixth if they take all three points.

Oliwia Sieradzka and Aleksandra Kazała carried Mielec’s offense against Radomka as while the 27-year-old opposite topped all scorers with 24 points (22 kills, one block, one ace), taking home the MVP award, the 28-year-old outside hitter delivered 21, with 19 kills and two blocks.

“It was an incredible match,” Sieradzka said. “It was a strange match, it was close until the end and the tie-breaker was the same way.”

Radomka’s leading scorer was star opposite Monika Gałkowska, who produced 22 points (21 kills, one block), followed by Croatian outside hitter Laura Miloš, who added 18, with 15 kills, two blocks and one ace.

Chemik also secure big win

Defending champions LOTTO Chemik Police also improved their chances of making it to the postseason by defeating a direct opponent in the race for a spot in the playoffs with their 3-0 (25-18, 27-25, 25-19) win over UNI Opole on Saturday.

With the result, Chemik passed their opponents and moved from seventh to sixth, with 20 points (six wins, 11 losses). UNI Opole are still inside the qualification zone in eighth place, with 18 points (six wins, 11 losses), but now see Metalkas Pałac Bydgoszcz and #VolleyWrocław just one point behind after the two teams played on Friday, with Pałac triumphing 3-2 (25-23, 23-25, 25-17, 22-25, 15-11).

Also on Friday, second-placed ŁKS Commercecon Łódź defeated 11th-placed Sokół & Hagric Mogilno 3-1 (25-18, 21-25, 25-18, 25-21). Two other matches involving the top teams in the league took place over the weekend, with leaders KS DevelopRes Rzeszów sweeping 12th-placed Energa MKS Kalisz 3-0 (25-13, 25-14, 25-11) on Saturday and third-placed PGE Grot Budowlani Łódź overcoming fourth-placed Bielsko-Biała 3-1 (25-21, 26-24, 19-25, 25-17) on Sunday.

No matches will be held next weekend as the dates are reserved for the Polish Cup Final Four, but two duels will take place during the week, featuring postponed matches - Bielsko-Biała and Mielec will meet on Wednesday, at 19:00 local time (18:00 GMT), and Pałac and Chemik will duel on Thursday, at 18:00 local time (17:00 GMT).
