Leading the 2024-2025 Polish Women’s Tauron Liga Finals best-of-five series against ŁKS Commercecon Łódź 2-0, KS DevelopRes Rzeszów are close to making history and securing their first national title.

The reigning Polish Cup champions will have three opportunities to claim the victory they need to win the series and lift the trophy over the next nine days, and the first of them will be on Tuesday, at 20:30 local time (18:30 GMT), in front of their home fans in Rzeszów.

DevelopRes joined the Tauron Liga ten years ago, in 2014-2015, and are yet to win their first title. The team has been in the Finals in the last four seasons, but lost all of them, falling to Commercecon in 2022-2023 and to LOTTO Chemik Police on the other three occasions.

Things seem to be different this time, though, as the team from Rzeszów has for the first time a 2-0 lead in the series that determines the Polish champions. They still need to take a final step to be able to celebrate the title and they count on the support of their home fans to do it.

“We understand that the next step may be the most difficult one,” said setter Katarzyna Wenerska. “But we’ll be playing at home, the fans will be on our side and that makes a difference. I’m confident we’re going to win gold.”

DevelopRes have been relying a lot in their middle blockers to overcome Commercecon in the Tauron Liga Finals as while Polish national team star Agnieszka Korneluk scored 33 points in the Finals and was the MVP of the first match, 24-year-old Weronika Centka-Tietianiec produced 28 and was awarded as the Best Player in the second encounter.

Commercecon need to fight back

The only team to have defeated DevelopRes in the Polish domestic season in 2024-2025, Commercecon need to upset their opponents on the road to keep the series open and return home for the fourth match. With their backs against the wall, the team from Łódź hopes to find the game that led them to win both regular season matches against their rivals in the most important moment of the season.

“We played much better in the semifinals than we've been doing now, and we've been able to get out of difficult seasons this season, so I hope we can do it again to give ourselves a chance,” outside hitter Natalia Mędrzyk reacted. “We'll need to significantly raise our level, and I hope we can find a way to do it.”

The winners of three Tauron Liga titles, the last of which in 2022-2023, Commercecon have in Polish Olympian Mędrzyk their most consistent player in the series so far – she got to double digits in scoring in both matches, having produced 24 points so far.

If needed, matches four and five are scheduled for April 26, in Łódź, and April 30, in Rzeszów, respectively.
