The teams defeated Budowlani and Bielsko-Biała for the second time and will contest the Polish title

For the second time in the last three seasons, ŁKS Commercecon Łódź and KS DevelopRes Rzeszów will meet in the Polish Women’s Tauron Liga Finals.
The top two teams in the tournament’s regular season secured their spots in the league’s Finals on Tuesday, by winning their best-of-three semifinal series on the road – Commercecon eliminated crosstown rivals PGE Grot Budowlani Łódź, while DevelopRes overcame BKS BOSTIK ZGO Bielsko-Biała.
Set to start the best-of-five series that will decide the 2024-2025 Polish champions, they met in the Finals of the 2022-2023 edition of the Tauron Liga, when Commercecon prevailed by three wins to one. The rivals also contested a trophy less than two months ago, when DevelopRes swept their Łódź opponents to triumph in Polish Cup.
The 2024-2025 Tauron Liga Finals will start next Tuesday, in Rzeszów, and will continue with matches on April 18, 22, 26 and 30. The first team to get to three victories will be crowned as the Polish champions.
After playing three matches to overcome the quarterfinals, Commercecon were again on the verge of needing an extra match in their semifinal series. Playing as visitors on Tuesday, they came back twice to beat Budowlani 3-2 (13-25, 27-25, 15-25, 25-18, 19-17) and confirm their presence in the Finals.
Polish national team outside hitter Zuzanna Górecka had a tremendous performance off the bench, coming in to lead the team with 20 points (17 kills, three blocks), and took home the MVP award. Slovenian outside hitter Lana Ščuka, with 16 points (15 kills, one block), also had a major offensive impact in their victory.
“I’m very proud of our team because we managed to win two very difficult matches,” Górecka said. “The end of the tie-breaker was very tense and we were still able to stay grounded and play with our minds. I’m sure we are much stronger now than we were a few days ago and only we know what we’ve been through. A lot of people stopped believing in us, but we never did.”
Budowlani’s competitive game was facilitated by an extraordinary performance of outside hitter Paulina Damaske, who tallied an incredible 31 points (26 kills, five blocks). Italian opposite Terry Enweonwu (14) and Serbian outside hitter Jelena Blagogević (12) also got to double digits in scoring.
If Commercecon’s path to the Tauron Liga Finals was a rocky one, with five matches and a tie-breaker, DevelopRes were much steadier in the playoffs, winning all four matches, with just two sets dropped.
On Tuesday, they took the final step on their way to play for their first national title by beating Bielsko-Biała 3-0 (27-25, 25-16, 25-18) on the road to end their series in two matches.
Team captain and outside hitter Monika Fedusio led DevelopRes with a match-high 18 points (14 kills, two blocks, two aces) and was awarded the MVP trophy. Star middle blocker Agnieszka Korneluk registered 12, one more than Brazilian opposite Sabrina Machado.
Bielsko-Biała’s leading scorers in the second and final match of the series were outside hitters Julita Piasecka and Martyna Borowczak, who produced 12 points each.
