Commercecon complete comeback and make it to the semis

ŁKS Commercecon Łódź completed their comeback in the quarterfinals of the 2024-2025 Polish Women’s Tauron Liga to win their best-of-three series against ITA TOOLS STAL Mielec on Sunday and advance to the semifinals of the tournament.

With only four teams still standing, the Tauron Liga playoffs continue on Friday, when Commercecon face local rivals PGE Grot Budowlani Łódź at 17:30 local time (16:30 GMT) and KS DevelopRes Rzeszów host BKS BOSTIK ZGO Bielsko-Biała three hours later in the first round of the best-of-three semifinal series of the tournament.

The second-best team of the regular season, Commercecon started the quarterfinals with a shocking home loss to Mielec last weekend. The result forced the team to get back-to-back wins in order to stay alive and they took the first step on Thursday, when they prevailed 3-0 on the road.

Back in their stadium on Sunday, the team from Łódź delivered da strong performance to leave no doubts about how the series was going to end and swept (27-25, 25-14, 25-16) Mielec to return to the semifinals after missing out last season – they had qualified in the six seasons prior to it.

Opposite Weronika Gierszewska, who earned a starting spot after the unexpected defeat in the first duel of the series, stepped up in the most important match of the season for Commercecon, producing a match-high 18 points (15 kills, two blocks, one ace) in the decisive encounter and being rewarded with the MVP award.

Polish national team members Natalia Mędrzyk and Klaudia Alagierska also played major roles in the victory as the outside hitter and the middle blocker produced 11 points each on Sunday.

Mielec, who returned to the Tauron Liga playoffs for the first time since 2010-2011, had veteran Emilia Mucha as their leading scorer with 15 points (11 kills, three blocks, one ace), followed by fellow outside hitter Aleksandra Kazała, who produced 12, all in kills.
