The race for the three spots still available in the 2024-2025 Polish Women’s Tauron Liga playoffs continues this weekend, with as many as six teams, with varying levels of possibilities, vying for those berths.

Two of them, sixth-placed LOTTO Chemik Police and seventh-placed Metalkas Pałac Bydgoszcz, depend only on their own results in the ninth leg of the second round of the regular season to secure their spots, as if they collect all three points in their matches they will be guaranteed in the postseason.

Defending champions Chemik currently appear in sixth place with 23 points (eight wins, 12 losses), and need three more to make sure they will end the regular season ahead of the first team currently outside the qualification zone, ninth-placed UNI Opole, who have 20 (six wins, 14 losses).

Their task this weekend isn’t, however, an easy one, as they will go on the road against third-placed PGE Grot Budowlani Łódź, who have 47 points (16 wins, four losses) and could still finish the regular season in first place. The duel will take place on Sunday, at 13:00 local time (noon GMT).

When the teams met in the first round of the regular season, Budowlani triumphed 3-1, but Chemik are in much better form now, entering Sunday’s encounter in a three-match winning streak in the Tauron Liga.

Pałac, who are seventh with 23 points (eight wins, 12 losses), are in the exact same position as, if they get all three points in their Sunday home match against eight-placed ITA TOOLS STAL Mielec, which is scheduled for 19:00 local time (18:00 GMT), they will book their tickets to the playoffs.

The team had the opportunity of clinching their spot last weekend, but had a surprising road loss to 12th-placed Energa MKS Kalisz and was forced to postpone its playoff celebrations for at least one week.

Mielec, who appear in eighth place with 22 points (seven wins, 13 losses), can also confirm their presence in the postseason this weekend, but for that to happen they need to beat Pałac and also have UNI Opole drop points in their match against second-placed KS DevelopRes Rzeszów on Saturday, at 12:30 local time (11:30 GMT).

Battle to avoid relegation continues

The battle against relegation will also have new chapters this weekend, but they will not be the final ones. Currently in last place with 14 points (four wins, 15 losses), Kalisz got a new life with their victory over Pałac and are now just two points behind Sokół & Hagric Mogilno, with one game in hand - only the last team goes down in the Polish League.

Kalisz will play on Monday, at 17:30 local time (16:30 GMT), against #VolleyWrocław, who are tenth with 17 points (six wins, 14 losses), and are also threatened by relegation, but can confirm their permanence in the Polish elite if they take all three points in the match.

Sokół will be in action on Friday, at 17:30 (16:30 GMT), in the first match of the weekend against fifth-placed MOYA Radomka Radom on the road. On the same day, fourth-placed BKS BOSTIK ZGO Bielsko-Biała will host league leaders ŁKS Commercecon Łódź at 20:30 (19:30 GMT).
