Reigning Polish Women’s Tauron Liga champions LOTTO Chemik Police made a big step to keep their title defense alive in the 2024-2025 edition of the tournament on Monday, during the eighth leg of the second round of the regular season.

The 11-time national champions faced a direct opponent in the race for a spot in the playoffs in #VolleyWrocław on the road and produced a strong performance to win 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-20) and move back into the qualification zone.

Chemik started the weekend in ninth place after losing to Metalkas Pałac Bydgoszcz in the previous leg, but moved up to seventh place with the three points collected against #VolleyWrocław, getting to 20 (seven wins, 12 losses) and switching places with ITA TOOLS STAL Mielec, who lost to league leaders KS DevelopRes Rzeszów 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-20) on Sunday. Still alive in the race for the playoffs, #VolleyWrocław are tenth with 17 points (six wins, 13 losses).

Star middle blocker Dominika Pierzchała had a great showing for Chemik against #VolleyWrocław. The 23-year-old, who represented Poland at the 2023 Volleyball Nations League, produced a match-high 15 points with eight kills, five blocks and two aces and took home the MVP award.

Veteran outside hitter Martyna Grajber-Nowakowska and 18-year-old opposite Julia Hewelt contributed 11 points each.

Opposite Wiktoria Kowalska was the only #VolleyWrocław player to get to double digits in scoring – she registered 12 points, with ten kills, one block and one ace.

Pałac upset Budowlani

Two other teams fighting for the four remaining spots in the playoffs also won their matches, getting closer to booking their tickets to the postseason. Pałac was one of them as the sixth-placed side caused the biggest upset of the weekend, beating third-placed PGE Grot Budowlani Łódź 3-0 (25-15, 25-21, 25-23) on Friday, getting to 23 points (eight wins, 11 losses).

Currently in eighth place, UNI Opole also triumphed, overcoming 11th-placed Sokół & Hagric Mogilno 3-2 (21-25, 25-21, 19-25, 25-23, 15-8) to add two more points to their new total of 20 (six wins, 13 losses) and remain inside the qualification zone.

The eighth leg of the second round in Poland also had second-placed ŁKS Commercecon Łódź defeating fifth-placed MOYA Radomka Radom 3-0 (34-32, 25-22, 25-12) on Saturday and fourth-placed BKS BOSTIK ZGO Bielsko-Biała downing 12th-placed Energa MKS Kalisz 3-1 (23-25, 25-20, 25-19, 25-18) on Tuesday.

The ninth leg of the second round will start as early as Thursday and will continue until Monday, with six matches held in the period.
