BKS BOSTIK ZGO Bielsko-Biała will have a massive opportunity to keep their hopes of ending the 2024-2025 Women’s Tauron Liga’s regular season among the top three teams in the country alive on Sunday, during the seventh leg of the second round of the tournament.

Currently in fourth place with 37 points (13 wins, three losses), they will go on the road against third-placed PGE Grot Budowlani Łódź, who have 41 (14 wins, three losses), on Sunday, at 20:30 local time (19:30 GMT), having the ability to bring the difference between them down to a single point - Bielsko-Biała also have a game in hand over Budowlani.

Bielsko-Biała had some of their first matches of the season postponed, which got them behind the league’s top three of KS DevelopRes Rzeszów (45 points), ŁKS Commercecon Łódź (43) and Budowlani for most of their campaign, but they started to catch up with their opponents over the last few weeks.

This past week, in particular, was fairly productive for the team as they played twice and collected all six points against LOTTO Chemik Police and #VolleyWrocław, making a strong push to gain ground on their rivals.

With 24 points scored across both matches, Italian outside hitter Giulia Angelina played a major role in the team’s recent three-match winning streak in the Tauron Liga.

Budowlani got on the court last weekend aiming for first place, but they lost the direct duel with DevelopRes and ended up falling to third place, being passed by Łódź rivals Commercecon, who, as Bielsko-Biała, have a game in hand over them. Because of that, the team needs to collect all three points on Sunday as they don’t want to see their rivals create some separation.

The duel between the two sides has been traditionally very leveled, with Bielsko-Biała having 26 victories to Budowlani’s 25 – they took the lead in the series last season, when they prevailed in the playoffs for third place by three wins to two. This season, however, the team from Łódź emerged victorious in their only encounter, in the first round of the regular season, in December, triumphing 3-1.

Direct battles for a spot in the playoffs

The seventh leg of the second round of the Tauron Liga’s regular season will also have major implications in the race for the final spots in the playoffs, with two duels involving teams that are heavily in the mix.

The first of them will take place on Friday, when eighth-placed #VolleyWrocław, currently the last team inside the qualification zone, with 16 points (six wins, 11 losses), host tenth-placed Metalkas Pałac Bydgoszcz, who have 15 (five wins, 11 losses), at 17:30 local time (16:30 GMT).

On Saturday, defending champions Chemik, who are seventh, with 17 points (five wins, 11 losses), will be at home against UNI Opole, who are right above them, in sixth place, with 18 points (five wins, 12 losses), at 12:30 (11:30 GMT).

Two teams who are outside the qualification zone, but on the verge of getting in, will have critical matches against opponents who are near the top of the standings. On Friday, 11th-placed Sokół & Hagric Mogilno, who have 15 points (five wins, 12 losses), will be on the road against Commercecon, at 19:00 (18:00 GMT). On Saturday, ITA TOOLS STAL Mielec, who are ninth, with 16 (five wins, 11 losses), will host MOYA Radomka Radom, who are fifth, with 23 (eight wins, nine losses), at the same time.

League leaders DevelopRes will be on the road on Saturday, facing 14th-placed Energa MKS Kalisz, who have 11 points (three wins, 13 losses), and need positive results to start a push to avoid relegation. The match will begin at 16:00 (15:00 GMT).
