Back at home, Commercecon push to tie the Tauron Liga Finals

Three days after meeting for the first time in the 2024-2025 Polish Women’s Tauron Liga Finals, ŁKS Commercecon Łódź and KS DevelopRes Rzeszów are set to continue their battle for the national title on Friday.

Defeated in the first match of the best-of-five series, held on Tuesday, in Rzeszów, Commercecon will return home on Friday, at 17:30 local time (15:30 GMT), when they expect massive support from their fans to level the playing field and keep the dispute for the Polish title open.

Despite the 3-0 loss in the opening match of the series, Commercecon had good moments on Tuesday, losing the first and third sets by the minimum margin of two points. As they prepare for the second match, they expect homecourt advantage will help tip the balance their way.

The team from Łódź has been the only one in Polish volleyball to beat DevelopRes in the 2024-2025 season, taking them down twice in the regular season, and they hope they can do it again now, when the stakes are much higher.

“I think we really like playing at home and we have played great matches in our stadium many times this season,” setter Marlena Kowalewska remarked. “I hope that Friday will be just like that and, above all, that’s different than the one in Rzeszów. I hope that after the match we will have the series even at 1-1. We've already won against DevelopRes this season, and we know how to do it. That's why we definitely won't give up, and we'll try to play our best volleyball.”

For DevelopRes, beating Commercecon in Łódź, something they haven’t done since 2022-2023, would put them significantly closer to their first Polish title as they would need just one victory to win the series with two of the potential three remaining matches being played in their stadium.

The team from Rzeszów is certainly more confident after starting the series with a convincing straight-set victory, but also aware that Commercecon will be determined to play better in a match that could make a huge impact on the series' outcome.

“I am convinced that Commercecon will do everything to get even and put up an even stronger fight than in Rzeszów,” outside hitter Marrit Jasper said. “That is why I am not expecting an easy match, quite the opposite. After all, they have a very good team and will certainly try to press us in every element. We can certainly expect them to react to the defeat in the first match by playing even better.”

After Tuesday’s match, the record between the teams shows 17 victories to DevelopRes and 16 for Commercecon in 33 Polish League encounters. This season, the teams met four times, with the Rzeszów side triumphing in the Polish Cup Final and the first match of the Tauron Liga Finals, and their Łódź opponents coming out on top in the two regular season encounters.
