The second leg of the best-of-three PlusLiga semifinals in Poland is set to take place on Wednesday, April 23. The first leg delivered very interesting results, so the excitement in the second is guaranteed. If the winners of the first matches, PGE Projekt Warsaw and BOGDANKA LUK Lublin, win their second matches, they will already advance to the championship title playoff. If their opponents, Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie and Jastrzebski Wegiel Jastrzebie-Zdroj, win on Wednesday, however, they will push their semifinal series to a third-leg decider on Saturday. Meanwhile, the fifth place in the final PlusLiga standings will be decided on Thursday between ZAKSA Kedzierzyn-Kozle and Asseco Resovia Rzeszow.

Semifinal: Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie v PGE Projekt Warsaw

Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie will host PGE Projekt Warsaw in the second leg of this semifinal playoff at the Arena Sosnowiec on Wednesday at 17:30 local time (15:30 UTC). The first leg offered a five-set battle with hosts Projekt celebrating a 3-2 (25-22, 25-20, 17-25, 19-25, 15-12) victory over Aluron and edging forward in the series. They also widened their lead in the all-time head-to-head record to 12-9.

Both sides have previously medaled in the PlusLiga – Projekt with two silver and two bronze medals and Aluron with one silver and one bronze – but they are both aiming at conquering a historic first-ever championship title, so the fans can expect another furious battle between the two teams on Wednesday.

“We have to make sure that we keep our morale high and remember that we beat this team the previous week (in the Poland Cup semifinals). Now we have an important match at home. It's do or die for us. The beauty of this series is that every game is different and they have to beat us twice. In the next match we will play at home and we will have a great crowd on our side. We just have to give it our all and get through this together as a team. We're not even thinking about that third game right now because we have to get there first by winning on Wednesday.” Aaron Russell, outside hitter of Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie
Semifinal: BOGDANKA LUK Lublin v Jastrzebski Wegiel Jastrzebie-Zdroj

BOGDANKA LUK Lublin will welcome Jastrzebski Wegiel Jastrzebie-Zdroj to the HSW Globus for the late match on Wednesday, starting at 20:30 (18:30). Lublin took the lead in the series with a sensational 3-1 (23-25, 25-22, 25-18, 25-22) victory at the home venue of the regular season winners, reigning national cup holders and defending PlusLiga champions on Friday. It was the first time BOGDANKA managed to beat Jastrzebski Wegiel this season and only the second time in the 11 encounters the two clubs have had so far in history.

While the club from Jastrzebie-Zdroj is targeting its fourth PlusLiga title, their opponents from Lublin have never medaled in the PlusLiga, so a home win on Wednesday would already mean a historic success for the BOGDANKA LUK club and it would be the second of the season, after they picked up Europe’s CEV Challenge Cup trophy last month.

“The playoffs should not be about the finished match, but about the next one. We want to return to Jastrzebie for a third game.” Benjamin Toniutti, setter and captain of Jastrzebski Wegiel Jastrzebie-Zdroj
Fifth-place playoff: ZAKSA Kedzierzyn-Kozle v Asseco Resovia Rzeszow

ZAKSA Kedzierzyn-Kozle are just a step away from finishing fifth in the season’s PlusLiga standings. In the first leg of the home-and-away fifth-place playoff, they claimed a 3-1 (20-25, 25-22, 25-22, 25-18) victory at Asseco Resovia Rzeszow and now taking two sets at home would be enough for them to win the series. The return leg is on Thursday, April 24, at 17:30 (15:30).
