The PlusLiga “weekend” will serve off on Saturday afternoon, December 28, at 14:45 local time (13:45 UTC) with BOGDANKA LUK Lublin hosting Barkom Kazhany Lviv. Fourth in the current standings on 35 points and a 12-5 win-loss record, Lublin are the heavy favourites to win this match. However, despite standing second from the bottom, in 15th place on 11 and 4-13, their Ukrainian visitors from the only foreign club in the league have been known to surprise a few favourites this season. Barkom even lead the head-to-head series with BOGDANKA by 3-2 in wins.

Saturday’s programme will offer one more game. Starting at 17:30 (16:30), Nowak-Mosty MKS Bedzin will welcome Steam Hemarpol Norwid Czestochowa, hoping to find their way out of the relegation zone. Nowak-Mosty are right below the cut-off line, in 14th place on 12 and 3-14, while Norwid are comfortably situated within the playoff zone, in sixth place on 29 and 10-7.

Another three matches will be played on Sunday. The day’s action will start at 14:45 (13:45) with PSG Stal Nysa entertaining PGE Projekt Warsaw. Stal are the last team above the relegation zone. They stand 13th on 15 and 4-13, far from being safe from dropping back down below the red line. The squad from the capital is the one with the most wins in the PlusLiga so far this season, but it is running second on points, 41 and 15-2.

Two teams from the area between the playoff zone and the relegation zone that have to keep an eye out in both directions will meet next on Sunday. At 17:30 (16:30), Slepsk Malow Suwalki will host Cuprum Stilon Gorzow Wielkopolski. Slepsk are in 10th place on 23 and 9-8, while Cuprum are two spots below them, on 19 and 8-9.

In Sunday’s late match at 20:30 (19:30), Trefl Gdansk will welcome PGE GiEK SKRA Belchatow. When they met in Belchatow back in September, they put up a five-set battle with hosts SKRA celebrating the victory. Trefl, currently in 11th place on 20 and 6-11, will now have the home-court advantage against the strong opponents, who stand seventh on 28 and 10-7.

Another two teams that engaged in a five-set duel back in September will open Monday’s PlusLiga programme at 17:30 (16:30). After beating their opponents in a the tie-breaker on the road, now third-placed Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie, on 39 and 13-4, will be looking for a more convincing win over Asseco Resovia Rzeszow at home. Resovia are the last team within the playoff zone, standing eighth on 28 and 8-9.

Jastrzebski Wegiel Jastrzebie-Zdroj and GKS Katowice will close the PlusLiga “weekend” with their fixture at 20:30 (19:30) on Monday. It is an encounter between the top team and the bottom team in the standings and, at least in theory, easy to predict. The defending champions and match hosts are table leaders on 44 and 14-3, but their visitors from Katowice trail on 6 and 2-15, time to find salvation is slowly running out and they have nothing to lose as they face the mighty opponents in Jastrzebie-Zdroj.

The last fixture of the 18th leg, between ZAKSA Kedzierzyn-Kozle and Indykpol AZS Olsztyn, has been postponed to February 27.
