In order to remain alive regardless of other results, Talmassons need to beat Firenze in front of their home fans to close the gap between the teams. If they lose the match 3-0 or 3-1, they will have no more chances of leaving the relegation zone and will return to the second division next season - if they lose 3-2, they could still have a chance, depending on other results.
“We need to approach every match as a final,” said libero and team captain Martina Ferrara. “It’s a decisive moment in the season and every point matters for us if we want to remain in the first division.”
For Firenze, beating Talmassons would be a big step to avoid relegation. A victory could potentially get the team out of the relegation zone after the weekend, but they would still need to battle Roma, who host Reale Muta Fenera Chieri ’76 on Sunday, at 16:00 (15:00 GMT), and, eventually, Perugia, who face Eurotek Uyba Busto Arsizio on Saturday, at 20:30 (19:30 GMT), to continue in the Italian elite for another season.
The two teams met just once in the Lega Femminile so far, in the first round of the current season, and, despite playing on the road, Talmassons prevailed 3-0, securing the second of their third victories.
