The first relegated team in the 2024-2025 Lega Volley Femminile Serie A1 Tigotà could be known this weekend, during the 11th leg of the second round of the regular season.

Sitting at the bottom of the standings in the Italian League in 14th place, Cda Volley Talmassons Fvg need desperately to earn points in their match against Il Bisonte Firenze, on Saturday, at 18:00 local time (17:00 GMT), or they will have their return to the country’s second division in 2025-2026 confirmed.

Talmassons have only 13 points collected after the first 23 matches (three wins, 20 losses) of their first-ever campaign in the Italian elite and, in order to avoid relegation, they will need much better production in their three remaining matches.

The duel against Firenze, who are also inside the relegation zone in 13th place with 16 points (five wins, 18 losses), is a critical one as they are one of just three teams that Talmassons can still pass before the end of the regular season – 12th placed SMI Roma Volley, who have 17 points (five wins, 18 losses), and 11th-placed Bartoccini-MC Restauri Perugia, who have 21 (seven wins, 16 losses), are the other two.

In order to remain alive regardless of other results, Talmassons need to beat Firenze in front of their home fans to close the gap between the teams. If they lose the match 3-0 or 3-1, they will have no more chances of leaving the relegation zone and will return to the second division next season - if they lose 3-2, they could still have a chance, depending on other results.

“We need to approach every match as a final,” said libero and team captain Martina Ferrara. “It’s a decisive moment in the season and every point matters for us if we want to remain in the first division.”

For Firenze, beating Talmassons would be a big step to avoid relegation. A victory could potentially get the team out of the relegation zone after the weekend, but they would still need to battle Roma, who host Reale Muta Fenera Chieri ’76 on Sunday, at 16:00 (15:00 GMT), and, eventually, Perugia, who face Eurotek Uyba Busto Arsizio on Saturday, at 20:30 (19:30 GMT), to continue in the Italian elite for another season.

The two teams met just once in the Lega Femminile so far, in the first round of the current season, and, despite playing on the road, Talmassons prevailed 3-0, securing the second of their third victories.

Race for the playoffs continues

In the other half of the table, the race for a spot in the playoffs continues this weekend, with three teams – Bergamo (33 points), Megabox Ondulati Savio Vallefoglia (33) and Wash4Green Pinerolo (27) – competing for two berths.

All three teams play on Sunday – Pinerolo visit Savino Del Bene Scandicci and Bergamo play on the road against Igor Gorgonzola Novara at 17:00 (16:00 GMT), while Vallefoglia host Numia Vero Volley Milano one hour later.

For the race to end on Sunday, Bergamo and Vallefoglia need both to earn more points in their matches than Pinerolo do on theirs. Otherwise, the competition will continue for at least another week.

Lega Volley Femmnilie – Match Schedule & Results

The first match of the weekend will reunite league leaders Prosecco Doc Imoco Conegliano and 10th-placed Honda Olivero Cuneo, who are still slightly threatened by relegation and can no longer make it to the playoffs. The teams will play on Saturday, at 18:00 (17:00 GMT), in Villorba.
