SMI Roma Volley were arguably the biggest winners of the first leg of the second round of the 2024-2025 Lega Volley Femminile Serie A1 Tigotà regular season, leaving the bottom of the standings behind.

The team from the Italian capital started the weekend in 14th place, but secured a critical win and counted on a defeat from one of their main contenders in the fight to avoid relegation to climb to 12th, relieving some of the pressure they were facing.

Roma, who now have ten points (three wins, 11 losses), had a critical road match against Cda Talmassons Fvg, who entered the week ranked 12th, with nine points (two wins, 12 losses), and delivered a strong performance to secure a huge 3-1 (21-25, 25-20, 25-20, 25-22) victory that pushed them above their opponents in the standings.

Outside hitter Anna Adelusi led the way for Roma, tallying a match-high 21 points (19 kills, one block, one ace). Cuban opposite Wilma Salas also got to double digits with 11 points, all in kills.

“It was a tough match, against an opponent that desperately needed the points, like us,” Adelusi reacted. “The first round of the season didn’t go as we expected, so we hope this victory is a fresh start for us. I was glad I was able to help the team get this win.”

Roma managed to climb an extra spot in the standings thanks to Honda Olivero Cuneo’s 3-1 (16-25, 25-19, 27-25, 25-15) loss to Savino Del Bene Scandicci. Cuneo now rank 14th, with eight points (two wins, 12 losses).

Another result that helped Roma’s push to avoid relegation was Bartoccini-MC Restauri Perugia’s 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-23) loss to Bergamo. With that, Perugia are now just one point above Roma, appearing in 11th place with 11 points (three wins, 11 losses).

Novara up to third place

In the upper portion of the standings, Igor Gorgonzola Novara managed to move up from fourth to third with a 3-0 (25-18, 28-26, 25-20) win over Reale Mutua Fenera Chieri ’76. Novara now have 30 points (11 wins, three losses) and are three points below Scandicci and two above fourth-placed Numia Vero Volley Milano.

In the only match of the weekend held on Saturday, Il Bisonte Firenze topped Megabox Ondulati Savio Vallefoglia 3-2 (26-24, 19-25, 22-25, 25-19, 15-12).
