Numia Vero Volley Milano could know their opponents in the 2024-2025 Lega Volley Femminile Serie A1 Tigotà Finals on Wednesday, when Igor Gorgonzola Novara and Prosecco Doc Imoco Conegliano meet in the fourth and potentially last match of their semifinal series.

Leading the best-of-five series by two wins to one, Conegliano could bring the dispute to an end on Wednesday, when they will be on the road, facing Novara at the Pala Igor, at 20:30 local time (19:30 GMT). For the home team, only a victory will be enough to extend the series, creating the need for a fifth and decisive match.

Last Sunday’s match was instrumental for Conegliano, as the team needed to show its ability to bounce back after suffering its first defeat in the 2024-2025 season. The reigning world champions relied on the star power of Swedish opposite Isabelle Haak and outside hitters Gabriela ‘Gabi’ Guimarães and Zhu Ting, who combined for 59 points, to win 3-1 at home and regain control of the series.

The challenges presented by Novara weren’t, however, forgotten, and the Panthers have been working to solve them ahead of the fourth match of the series.

“In the last two matches we saw the real Novara,” head coach Daniele Santarelli reflected. “They have great fighting spirit and a lot of quality – you don’t beat the top three teams in the league and win the CEV Cup by accident. The last match was really good, but I think that the next one will be the toughest as they will do everything to extend the series while we’ll push to end it and make it to the Finals. We learned from the errors we made in the last two matches, and we need to face this one differently.”

It's win or win for Novara

For Novara, there are no options – they need to win to have a chance of playing a decisive fifth match in Villorba over the weekend. Their surprising victory in the second match of the series, which made of them the only team to beat Conegliano in 50 matches, serves as a source of confidence in a moment in which they have their backs against the wall.

Russian opposite Tatiana Tolok, who led their victory in the second match, and German outside hitter Lina Alsmeier, who has been their most consistent player in the series, will need to step up on Wednesday as Novara return home needing a win to stay alive.

“This is a key moment of the season for us,” libero Eleonora Fersino reacted. “We know we can’t make mistakes, but above anything, we need to show on the court that we don’t want the series to end. We’ve been playing very well at home, and I’m confident we can repeat what we did in the second match. Conegliano are the best team in the world, but we showed we can accomplish big things, and we’ll try everything on the court. Whatever happens, our goal is to leave the court with nothing to regret.”

The two teams have faced each other 54 times already and Conegliano has won 42 of those encounters. Before falling in the second match of the series, the defending champions had won five straight duels.
