Having lost their last 13 matches to Prosecco Doc Imoco Conegliano, including the one that got the 2024-2025 Lega Volley Femminile Serie A1 Tigotà Scudetto Finals started last Wednesday, Numia Vero Volley Milano will count on a massive weapon to try to even the series when the teams meet again on Saturday, at 16:05 local time (14:05 GMT).

The 2024 FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship bronze medalists decided to take the second match of the best-of-five series that will determine the Italian champions to the Unipol Forum, in Assago, on the outskirts of Milano, where 12,000 fans are expected to support the team against the defending champions.

Match two is seen as a critical one in the series, as if Conegliano prevail again, they will take a 2-0 lead, with two of the potential three remaining matches being held in their stadium. For Milano, it represents an opportunity to not only even the series, but also to guarantee another home match.

On Saturday, Milano hope to build on their performance in the first match of the series, when they might not have taken the win, but were able to take a set from Conegliano and challenge the reigning world champions in many moments.

One of the keys for them in the second match will be finding a reliable secondary scoring options and not overloading star opposite Paola Egonu, who left the court on Wednesday with 33 points, her highest mark in the entire season.

“One of the things we took from match one is that we can play at the same level as Conegliano,” head coach Stefano Lavarini said. “But we need to be able to do it the entire time and, most importantly, when they manage to get us under pressure. On Saturday the fans will be on our side and we’ll fight for every ball.”

Conegliano want to limit errors

Looking to claim the Italian title for a seventh-straight and eighth-overall time, Conegliano know that getting a win on the road, especially with such a huge crowd against them, would be a massive step to continue at the top in the Italian League.

The team had a solid first performance against Milano, with three hitters getting to double digits in scoring – Isabelle Haak (27), Zhu Ting (17), Gabi Guimarães (12) – and two others coming one point short of it – Cristina Chirichella and Sarah Fahr. The goal for the second match is to continue to limit the errors and be ready to make adjustments as the match progresses.

“Every match in this series will be unique,” head coach Daniele Santarelli reflected. “Milano will have 12,000 fans pushing them and they certainly want to fight back and even the series. I expect this match to be even harder than the first one. One of the keys for our victory was to keep our errors low and we need to repeat that. We have to be ready to adapt and find solutions to whatever happens on the court and to focus on our side of the net.”

Undefeated against Milano in almost two years, Conegliano have massive advantage over their opponents in Italian League matches, having triumphed in 34 of the 39 encounters held so far.
