Prosecco Doc Imoco Conegliano and Numia Vero Volley Milano got the 2024-2025 Lega Volley Femminile Serie A1 Tigotà Scudetto Finals started on Wednesday, with an exciting duel that saw the Panthers strike first in the best-of-five series that will decide the Italian title.

Playing at home, at the Palaverde, in Villorba, where over 5,000 fans supported them, Conegliano overcame some ups and downs to triumph 3-1 (25-17, 24-26, 25-21, 25-13) and take an important step toward their seventh straight and eighth overall Lega Femminile title.

The reigning world champions relied on star opposite Isabelle Haak to claim their first victory in the Finals. The 25-year-old Swedish led the team’s offense with 27 points (23 kills, four aces) and received the MVP award in the match that opened the series.

“The Finals are going to be very tough, and we saw it today,” Haak reacted. “Milano played a great match, especially in the first sets, but we resisted, with the support of our fans. When we found our rhythm, we were able to control the match. It’s great to win the first match, but we know we’ll need to fight even harder on Saturday.”

Fed by Polish star setter Joanna Wołosz, Conegliano’s other four starting hitters also had solid production, with Chinese outside hitter Zhu Ting tallying 17 points (all in kills), Brazilian star Gabriela ‘Gabi’ Guimarães adding 12 (all in kills) and middle blockers Sarah Fahr and Cristina Chirichella contributing nine each.

Milano, on the other hand, had star opposite Paola Egonu carrying their offense with a match-high 33 points (30 kills, two blocks, one ace). She was the only player in the team to get to double digits in scoring – outside hitter Nika Daalderop registered nine, and middle blocker Anna Danesi chipped in eight.

“I feel that at a certain point in the match, we started making too many errors and not playing as aggressively as we should,” setter Alessia Orro said. “Against Conegliano, making a few errors is all it takes for the match to go away, as they gain confidence and start taking more risks, becoming very difficult to stop. We’ll try again in the second match, and to succeed, we’ll need to limit our errors and serve tougher.”
