The biggest rivalry in Italian women’s volleyball over the last few years will take center stage again in the 2024-2025 Lega Volley Femminile Serie A1 Tigotà Scudetto Finals, with Prosecco Doc Imoco Conegliano and Numia Vero Volley Milano meeting for the title.

The first of potentially five matches that will determine the Italian champions will take place on Wednesday, at 20:30 local time (19:30 GMT), at the Palaverde, in Villorba, starting what should be an exciting battle for the Scudetto – the following matches in the best-of-five series are scheduled for April 19, 22, 25 and 27.

The rivalry between the teams has exponentially grown over the last four seasons, when they met in as many as nine Finals. Conegliano and Milano were the finalists of seven of the last nine national tournaments held in the country, having met in three editions of the Coppa Italia (2022-2023, 2023-2024, 2024-2025), two of the Supercoppa (2023, 2024) and one of the Lega Femminile (2022-2023) ahead of this season’s Finals – they also competed in the Finals of the Lega Femminile in 2021-2022. Additionally, the teams also clashed for gold in the European Champions League (2023-2024) and the Courmayeur Cup (2024) in the period.

Up to now, Conegliano have been incredibly dominant against their rivals, having taken the win in all nine occasions the teams met with a trophy on the line. The Panthers also have a vastly positive background in Italian League encounters in general, having walked away on the winning side of the duel in 33 of the 38 matches held so far.

Conegliano, who have seven Italian titles and won the last six editions of the tournament, were flawless in the regular season, setting a new Italian League points record with 77 points obtained and just one dropped in their undefeated campaign of 26 matches. They also cruised in the quarterfinals, eliminating Bergamo with a pair of sweeps, but suffered their first defeat after 50 matches against Igor Gorgonzola Novara in the semifinals and needed four matches to win the series.

The reigning world and European champions, Conegliano have three Olympic champions in their squad in libero Monica De Gennaro and middle blockers Sarah Fahr and Marina Lubian, as well as international stars such as Polish setter Joanna Wołosz, Swedish opposite Isabelle Haak, Brazilian outside hitter Gabriela ‘Gabi’ Guimarães and Chinese outside hitter Zhu Ting.

Milano earned a spot among the top Italian teams in the last decade and are yet to win a Lega Femminile title, having taken silver in 2021-2022 and 2022-2023.

This season, the team had ups and downs at the start of their campaign, but ended the regular season on a high, ranking second with 60 points, and carried their good form into the playoffs, where they are undefeated after eliminating Megabox Ondulati Savio Vallefoglia in two matches in the quarterfinals and Savino Del Bene Scandicci in three in the semifinals

Counting on four starters of the Italian national team that won gold at the Paris Olympics last year in opposite Paola Egonu, setter Alessia Orro, middle blocker Anna Danesi and outside hitter Myriam Sylla, Milano, Milano heavily rely on their domestic players, but they also have international stars of their own in Serbian middle blocker Hena Kurtagić, Japanese libero Satomi Fukudome and Dutch outside hitter Nika Daalderop.
