Prosecco Doc Imoco Conegliano are set to appear in the Lega Volley Femminile Serie A1 Tigotà Scudetto Finals for a seventh-straight season after they overcame Igor Gorgonzola Novara in their best-of-five semifinal series on Wednesday.

The Panthers will face Numia Vero Volley Milano, who qualified last weekend, in a series of up to five matches that will determine the 2024-2025 Italian champions. The duel between the Italian heavyweights will begin next Wednesday and could continue until April 27 if all five matches are needed for a winner to emerge.

On Wednesday, Conegliano defeated Novara for the third time in the four matches held over the last 20 days to win their series and return to the Italian League Finals. Their opponents, again, resisted, but the world champions showed their strength in the key moments to win 3-1 (28-26, 23-25, 25-20, 25-16) in front of almost 4,000 fans at the Pala Igor, in Novara, where they suffered their only defeat in the entire season.

Swedish opposite Isabelle Haak led Conegliano offensively with a team-high 20 points, produced with 17 kills, two blocks and one ace. Outside hitters Zhu Ting and Gabriela ‘Gabi’ Guimarães were also important, contributing 17 and 16 points respectively, as well as Olympic champion middle blocker Sarah Fahr, who registered 14 and earned the match’s MVP award.

“It was a great match,” middle blocker Cristina Chirichella said. “They created many difficulties for us in some moments, but we managed to keep our level high and win the series. We certainly expected those kinds of challenges in the series, and I’m glad we managed to overcome them.”

Russian opposite Tatiana Tolok carried Novara offensively in the fourth match of the series, delivering a whopping 34 points, with 29 kills and five aces. Outside hitters Mayu Ishikawa and Lina Alsmeier also got to double digits in scoring, with each of them registering 13 points.

“I don’t think we have anything to regret,” said middle blocker Sara Bonifacio. “We performed really well and had a great season. We leave the playoffs with our heads up. This match was decided in the details. Against a team like them, you need to keep your attention level high the entire time and play almost perfectly to have a chance. When we started making some errors, that’s when they took advantage and that’s what happens at this level.”
