Kazakhstan’s Zhetysu Taldyqorgan will meet Thailand’s Nakhon Ratchasima QminC and Vietnam’s VTV Binh Dien Long An will take on China’s Beijing Baic Motor in Saturday’s semifinals of the AVC Women’s Champions League in the Philippines. The four teams won the quarterfinal matches at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig on Thursday and Friday and stayed in contention for the continental medals.

Baic Motor’s Jin Ye was the most prolific scorer of the quarterfinals with 37 points!

In the most interesting quarterfinal, Beijing Baic Motor emerged with a hard-fought 3-2 (31-29, 19-25, 20-25, 25-20, 15-12) victory over Philippines’ Petro Gazz Angels Manila on Friday evening. The blocking made the big difference in the match with the winners raising as many as 18 stuffs against only eight from the home team. Baic’s outside Jin Ye hammered out an impressive match high of 37 points, including four kill blocks. Her cross-court teammate Lu Yufei added another 19, while their American counterpart on Petro Gazz’s side Giovanna Milana also delivered a remarkable tally of 35 points.
Earlier on Friday, VTV Binh Dien Long An achieved a 3-1 (25-20, 17-25, 25-22, 28-26) win over Chinese Taipei’s Kaohsiung Taipower and set up another meeting with Baic Motor on Saturday. The two teams met in the pool stage and produced a five-set battle, which went the Chinese team’s way. Middle blocker Lu Thi Phuong led VTV against Taipower with 19 points. Outside hitter Vi Thi Nhu Quynh added another 18. Taipower’s outside Hsu Wan-Yun was the best scorer of the match with 21 points.

The quarterfinal round started on Thursday with Zhetysu Taldyqorgan’s 3-0 (25-13, 25-22, 25-20) sweep of their encounter with Philippines’ PLDT High Speed Hitters Manila with a 19-point match high from opposite Tatyana Nikitina.
Then, another Filipino team, home city Creamline Cool Smashers Pasig, was knocked out of contention by Nakhon Ratchasima QminC in a 3-0 (25-15, 25-22, 25-16) straight-setter. American opposite Anyse Marlee Smith led the way with 13 points for the winners. Nakhon Ratchasima’s outsides – captain Onuma Sittirak and Sasipapron Janthawisut – chipped in with 12 points apiece.
