Egypt’s Zamalek Giza earned the right to compete at the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship. At the Women’s African Volleyball Club Championship in Abuja, Nigeria, they defended their title of the previous two editions and picked up the third continental crown in the club’s history after a four-set victory in the all-Egyptian final against compatriots Al Ahly Cairo on Sunday. An Egyptian team had never participated in the Women’s Club World Championships until last year, when Zamalek made their debut at December’s event in China.

In a remake of the 2024 final in Cairo, which was resolved in five sets, this time the squad from Giza put together a 3-1 (29-27, 22-25, 25-20, 25-22) victory over Al Ahly in the gold medal showdown at the Moshood Abiola hall in Abuja with a match-high 29 points from Mariam Metwally. This way, Zamalek completed a perfect run of seven consecutive wins at the championship in Nigeria.

In the semifinals, Zamalek beat Kenya Pipeline Nairobi by a hard-fought 3-2 (25-23, 26-28, 25-19, 24-26, 15-12), while Al Ahly delivered a 3-0 (25-15, 25-23, 25-21) sweep of their encounter with Tunisia’s Carthage.

To completely match last year’s podium, Kenya Pipeline took the bronze. In Sunday’s third-place game, the Kenyan team mastered a 3-0 (28-26, 25-14, 25-18) shutout of Carthage.

A total of 16 teams representing Botswana, Cameroon, Congo DR, Cote d’Ivoire, Egypt, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal and Tunisia took part in the competition.

Zamalek’s 26-year-old striker Mariam Metwally was named Most Valuable Player (MVP) for the second time in a row. Another seven players were named on the championship’s Dream Team:

Opposite: Tokkallah Eassa Medhat (Zamalek)
Outside hitters: Tatjana Bokan (Al Ahly), Jihen Mohamed (Carthage)
Middle blockers: Trizah Atuka (Kenya Pipeline), May Abdelmaguid Ghazal (Al Ahly)
