The Brazilians hug after the final point in the gold medal match

Thamela Coradello and Victoria Lopes gave Brazil their second gold medal in a Volleyball World Beach Pro Elite event in the 2025 season and the two got to do it in their home sand, triumphing in Saquarema on Sunday.

The Brazilians followed up on the victory of compatriots Carol Salgado and Rebecca Cavalcanti in Quintana Roo two weeks ago and topped the podium at the Campo de Aviação, flanked by second-placed Americans Kristen Nuss and Taryn Brasher and third-placed Germans Svenja Müller and Cinja Tillmann.

Partners since last July, the 24-year-old Thamela and the 25-year-old Victoria counted on the support of the passionate Brazilian fans that packed the stands in Saquarema to come out on top in the hard-fought gold medal match, defeating Nuss and Brasher 2-1 (21-19, 16-21, 15-10).

“I’m so happy,” Thamela said after the match. “The stadium was boiling today and we’ve been very fortunate to have been getting such incredible support since the tournament started on Wednesday. It wasn’t easy, but we did it and winning in front of our compatriots, our families and friends is really special.”

The victory took Thamela and Victoria to the top of the podium for the second time in just six Beach Pro Tour events as partners – they also won at home in João Pessoa last year and have a pair of bronze medals as well.

Sunday’s gold medal match capped off what has been two incredible weeks for the Brazilians in Saquarema, as before playing in this week’s Beach Pro Tour event, they also won gold in a stop of the country’s domestic tour held in the city last weekend.

“We can’t thank the fans enough for the support we got,” Victoria reacted. “To be back at the top of the podium after winning the Brazilian Tour event last week is amazing. I’m very happy to give the Brazilian fans a title here at home. Thamela played incredibly, and I’m so proud of us.”
