Pedro, 21, and Renato, 25, started this week’s event at the Campo de Aviação in the qualifier and will, on Sunday, play for a fifth-straight day – they have five victories in six matches played so far.

Two of those triumphs were earned on Saturday, when the Brazilians went all the way from the Round of 12 to the semifinals. Pedro and Renato started the day with a three-set (17-21, 21-17, 15-13) win over Germans Sven Winter and Lukas Pfretzschner of Germany in the Round of 12 and later took down the Argentinean brothers Nicolas and Tomas Capogrosso in two sets (21-15, 21-16).

Their opponents in the semifinals, Mol and Sørum only had to play once on Saturday as they awarded a forfeit victory in the Round of 12 after Polish Olympians Michal Bryl and Bartosz Łosiak couldn’t get on the court. In the quarterfinals, they topped German qualifiers Winter and Pfretzschner in the tie-breaker (21-15, 16-21, 15-9) and secured their tenth-straight semifinal appearance on the Beach Pro Tour in a stretch that started back in 2023.

Åhman and Hellvig back in the semis

Reigning Olympic champions Åhman and Hellvig, on the other hand, managed to return to the semifinals after missing out at the Quintana Roo Elite, two weeks ago, when they made their 2025 season debut.

The Swedish stars had somewhat of a smooth day on Satruday in Squarema, beating French qualifiers Calvin Aye and Rémi Bassereau 2-0 (21-14, 21-15) in the Round of 12 and Cuban Olympians Noslen Diaz and Jorge Alayo also in two sets (25-23, 21-16) in the quarterfinals.

The fourth team set to compete in the semifinals in Saquarema, Boermans and de Groot continue undefeated in their first tournament in the season after they got two more victories on Saturday, overcoming Portuguese qualifiers Hugo Campos and João Pedrosa in the tie-breaker (21-12, 15-21, 15-5) in the Round of 12 and eliminating compatriots Alexander Brouwer and Steven van de Velde in two sets (21-19, 21-14) in the quarterfinals.

The Dutch made it to the semifinals in their last two Beach Pro Tour appearances, in 2024, winning bronze in Hamburg and finishing fourth in the Finals, held in Doha.
