Åhman/Hellvig (SWE) vs. Bello, Ja./Bello, Jo. (ENG) - Round of 12 #38899707

Åhman and partner Hellvig returned to the top after a brief period in second place

Despite missing the semifinals of a Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour event for a second-straight time, reigning Olympic champions David Åhman and Jonatan Hellvig of Sweden managed to return to the top of the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Rankings after its most recent update, following the conclusion of last week’s Quintana Roo Elite event, in Mexico.

The Swedes, who had been passed by Germans Clemens Wickler and Nils Ehlers ahead of their first appearance in the 2025 season, collected 760 points with their fifth-place finish in Mexico and got their total up to 7,320 – the Paris Olympic silver medalists didn’t compete in Quintana Roo and continue with 6,680.

The three teams that made it to the podium in Mexico also moved up in the Rankings, benefiting from the high number of points in play in Elite events. First-placed Cubans Noslen Diaz and Jorge Alayo returned to the top ten, now appearing in ninth place, after the 1,200 points they earned with their victory boosted their total to 5,740.

The Argentinean Capogrosso brothers Nicolas and Tomas also continued to move up and now appear in a career-high sixth-place, with 6,080 points. The South Americans have been probably the quickest-rising team in the ranking, having earned as many as 3,100 points in their last three events, where they won two silver medals and got one fourth-place.

Still a new team on the Beach Pro Tour, Americans Chaim Schalk and James Shaw were nicely rewarded for their incredible campaign in Quintana Roo, which started in the qualifier and ended with the bronze medals around their necks. The 1,000 points earned with their third-place finish were easily the most secured by them after six events as partners and boosted their new total of 3,420, which made them jump a whopping 22 spots, going from 50th to 28th.

American medalists separated by 60 points

On the women’s side, the results in Mexico pushed the two American teams that made it to the podium at Playa del Carmen up in the Ranking and brought them closer together. Paris Olympians Kristen Nuss and Taryn Brasher secured 1,000 points with their third-place finish and moved up from 17th to 11th, with 5,100.

Silver medalists Terese Cannon and Megan Kraft earned 1,1100 points with their campaign and are now the second-best American team on the list, coming right below Nuss and Brasher in 12th place with 5,040 points – 4,300 of them earned in their last four events as they made it to the podium in each of them.

A new team on the Beach Pro Tour this season, Brazilian gold medalists Carol Salgado and Rebecca Cavalcanti are still very low in the World Ranking as they have only two results accounted for, but now appear in 86th place with 1,660 points – they earned 1,200 this and 460 last week in Yucatán.

Austrian sisters Dorina and Ronja Klinger, who finished fifth in Quintana Roo and collected 760 points, consolidated their spot inside the top ten, going up from tenth to eighth with their new total of 5,280 points.
